Chakra Chanting Meditation practice awakens the Chakras or energy centers located within our body, and ultimately helps us unite with God(1). Chakra Chanting Meditation helps us free Kundalini, the dormant energy that lies near the base of our spine. The meditation practice involves awakening the seven energy centers or Chakras located in the human body(1). The locations of the Chakras are as follows(1)(2):

  1. Mooladhara (Root) Chakra: Located near the base of the spine
  2. Swadhisthana (Sacral Plexus) Chakra: Located at the base of the spinal column
  3. Manipura (Solar Plexus) Chakra: Located directly behind the navel
  4. Anahata (Heart) Chakra: Located directly behind the chest
  5. Vishuddhi (Throat) Chakra: Located directly behind the throat pit
  6. Ajna (Third Eye) Chakra: Located between and just above the eyebrows
  7. Sahasrara (Crown) Chakra: Located at the top of the head

Kundalini lies at the Mooladhara (Root) Chakra in an inactive state, but you can free this energy by practicing Advanced Chakra Chanting Meditation. When awakened, the energy rises up your spine, penetrating each Chakra. When the energy reaches the Sahasrara (Crown) Chakra, it liberates you(1). This process can take anywhere from days to years, or an entire lifetime or beyond to attain the result. It completely depends on the spiritual evolution of the practitioner’s soul. It is believed that when the energy reaches the Sahasrara (Crown) Chakra, it reunites with the Almighty: The union of God (Consciousness) and Goddess (Energy). So, Advanced Chakra Chanting Meditation reunites Individual Energy and Consciousness with that of the Universe’s Energy and Consciousness(1).

History/Origins of Chakra Chanting Meditation

Atharva Veda first introduced the concept of ‘vital points’, (Marmani) some of which are located within our body. A few of these points were later associated with Chakras(3). Centuries later, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Yoga-Basya of Vedavyasa made references to Chakras by highlighting the areas of the navel, heart, throat and “the light in the head.” These areas came to be later associated with Chakras(3)

Do not feel lonely the entire universe is inside you.

-Rumi

The energy centers were first recognized as Chakras during the years 800 to 900, in Kaula-Jnana-Nirnaya of Matsyendranatha. It introduced a six-Chakra system(3). The idea of a seven-Chakra system was first presented in Yoga Upanishads. Each one was associated with a unique symbol, color and associated realm(3). By 1577, the complete seven-Chakra system was developed and the modern-day Advanced Chakra Chanting Meditation is based on this structure(3). Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad delves into the power of Kundalini and the method to awaken it(4).

Benefits

According to a research article(6), Chakra Chanting Meditation has the ability to increase eye-center and throat-center energy, improving consciousness in our body. The article also concludes that practicing this meditation can positively affect our Cardiovascular System, preventing the possibility of developing heart diseases. It also helps improve emotional harmony, physical resistance, balance in life and flow of positive energy in our body.

The self-controlled soul, who moves amongst sense objects, free from either attachment or repulsion, he wins eternal Peace.

-Lord Krishna

Another study conducted by Balaji Deekshitulu P. V(7) suggests that regularly practicing Advanced Chakra Chanting Meditation can significantly reduce psychological stress. This meditation also improves relaxation, enhancing the practitioner’s quality of life.
